A Career in the Travel Industry…… Where Do I Start this Story!
Once upon a time, in my very early 20’s in Deerfield, Illinois, I got the urge to travel internationally, and spontaneously took off alone for England. This 2-week trip took on a life of its own, and before I knew it 2 months had seen me all over the continent of Europe; an exciting adventure and experience never to be forgotten, and an inspiration for my career.
I accepted a friend’s invitation for a week of skiing in the mountains near Salt Lake City… Deja vu all over again: 1 week became 2, and turned into 30+ years! I did return to Chicago to get my belongings, my car and my faithful German Shepherd, Nicki, before driving back excitedly, non-stop to Utah. Although it cramped my skiing time, employment in SLC looked attractive when Eastern Airlines needed reservation agents. I landed the job, stepping into increasing responsibility in a variety of positions both in SLC and on base in Miami (Eastern headquarters) until they went out of business.
What’s a guy to do? Interviewing at local travel agencies in Salt Lake, I proposed a partnership with a promising company. The owner agreed and, fast forward 6 years, I increased the size of that small agency tenfold! What a ride. Ever since, I’ve been in the travel industry holding positions including Owner, COO, VP and Sales Manager for 30+ decades. I’ve traveled extensively world-wide including Hong Kong & China, all over the Caribbean, cooking classes in Tuscany, and many “out of the way places”. . . Oviedo in Asturias, Spain is among my favorites. Oh, I forgot to say - I love my career!
I still enjoy skiing, and have nurtured a keen love of cooking - baking cheesecakes is definitely my specialty. I’m game if there is some canyoneering/rappelling and, of course, don’t forget to mention, traveling! You’ll find me passionate about booking corporate travel arrangements and assisting others (like you) with ease of travel and/or chasing a vacation dream of your own – all a part of living happily ever after.
